Předložena disertační práce srovnává dva typy postmodifikačních konstrukcí v angličtině - finitní věty vztažné na straně jedné a participiální věty na straně druhé. Srovnáni vychází z faktu, že obě konstrukce představuji větnou realizaci téhož větného členu, tj. postmodifikátoru v rámci substantivní fráze. Cílem teto práce je podat detailnější popis charakteru a užití obou konstrukcí, a to jak z hlediska systémových vztahů (vzájemné zaměnitelnosti), tak z hlediska výskytu v různých stylech, a s tim souvisejících funkcí. Práce je rozvržena na do tři hlavních časti: teoretického úvodu (kapitola 2), který podává přehled vlastností obou typů vět a poznatky o jejich vzájemném vztahu, jak jsou popsány v literatuře; hlavni časti (kapitoly 3-6) ; a časti závěrečné v kapitole 7.
