Abstrakt:
The paper explores deviations from the canonical order of obligatory clause constituents in present-day English. Compared to optional adverbials, the obligatory clause elements are considerably less mobile, and their movement out of their usual slots in the sentence structure is only possible under special circumstances. The purpose of this paper is to examine the relative degree of mobility of the respective clause constituents, and the factors which trigger the change of their position.
